Because of COVID-19, children who qualify for free or reduced-price meals at school will receive additional meal benefits. P-EBT is a new and temporary food benefit to help families buy groceries as schools are closed.

Virginia Extends Emergency Snap Benefits Through January

Families with children in grade 12 who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals – including children who attend school for free meals.

P-EBT is for all students regardless of nationality or immigration status. The only condition is that the child must be eligible for free or reduced school meals.

This amount depends on the number of children in your household receiving free or reduced-price school meals. The maximum benefit discount is $ 399 per child. You will receive one P-EBT card for all of your children (Example: If you have 3 children, you will receive one card with $ 1, 197).

Families with children eligible for free and reduced-price meals after their school closes will receive less than $ 399 per child. It depends on when your family requested free or reduced price meals or for basic meals. P-EBT benefits ($ 5.70 per day) are based on the number of school days the school is closed:

P-EBT numbers are for all eligible children in Washington, DC, regardless of their status or the status of their parents. Snap Food Benefits

You can choose where to send your P-EBT card on your P-EBT application. If your child (ren) is approved, your P-EBT card will arrive by mail 3-5 days after approval. Due to application load, it can take up to 30 business days for your application to run.

You must apply by August 31, 2020 or before the school year 2020-21 (whichever is later).

You will receive a P-EBT card in the mail with information on how to use your P-EBT card. (See # 6 for more information on how to apply). The approval process can take longer if you are eligible for free school meals and discounts after school closures.

If your P-EBT application is rejected, you will receive a letter in the mail explaining what happened and how to appeal if you think the denial is incorrect.

Families with school-age children who have just lost their job or income can fill out a free or reduced-price school application through your school district before June 30 and before you apply for P- EBT.
