Choosing The Right Amplifier For Your Speakers

If you’re working on an electrical project, sometimes you need to check the amperage, or the amount of electricity flowing through a circuit.

Although this is not a common test, it can be useful to measure the current to determine if something is more powerful than it should be. For example, when trying to determine if something is draining your car’s battery, measuring the current may be helpful. Luckily, measuring current is easy if you have a multimeter and use protective shields around the electronics.

Before attempting to measure current, wear gloves and make sure you are not working on metal surfaces to prevent electric shock. To start, you set it up by inserting the black multimeter into the “COM” socket and the red one into the “A” socket. Depending on the electrical system you’re testing, select either AC or DC current on the meter, and make sure the multimeter is set to the current range you’re testing. Then turn off the power and disconnect the circuit being tested. After de-energizing the circuit, connect the red and white lead of the multimeter to the negative terminal of the power supply and reverse the circuit by touching the black lead to the negative lead. Leave the probes for 1 minute before checking the current reading on the display. Scroll down to learn how to test your multimeter before reading further!
