There are two ferries from the mainland to Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Ships from Battery Park, New York, stop first at Liberty Island, then at Ellis Island. On the other hand, boats departing from Liberty State Park in New Jersey stop first at Ellis Island and then at Liberty Island.

Before explaining the exact way to visit the Statue of Liberty, I thought it would be a good idea to first explain what the Statue of Liberty is and why it is located in New York Harbor. Most visitors don’t know this, but the official name of the Statue of Liberty is actually “Liberty that inspires the world.”

The only way to see the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island in New York City is by boat operated by Statue Cruises from Battery Park in New York City and Liberty State Park in New Jersey. No other company is allowed to carry passengers to Liberty Island.

Some Statue Cruise ticket prices include access to the island’s boats, stadiums, museums and audio guides. If you are traveling with children, children aged 0-3 can visit the Statue of Liberty for free. In an interesting twist, Liberty Island is actually closer to New Jersey than New York.

The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are busy year-round, and tickets to the Crown go on sale six months in advance (but more on that later).

It can be windy on the way to the island, so it’s important to wear sunscreen. Summers are incredibly hot and school holidays are the busiest time for tourists, while winters can be very cold. Personally, I think the best time to visit the Statue of Liberty is late spring or early fall. Then it will be less crowded than in summer, but the weather will be better.

First of all, if you want to visit the crown of the Statue of Liberty, you should know that this ticket is not available on the day, so you should buy it in advance. Tickets for this Liberty Island event are extremely popular and can sell out six months in advance, especially during peak periods.

To climb to the top of the crown, you must be able to climb the crown without support (there are approximately 393 steps to the top, which is the height of a 27-story building), even children should be able to climb. There is a crown without support. You must be at least 4 feet tall to climb the crown yourself.

Only 10 people are allowed inside the Crown at a time. Please note that the Crown does not have an elevator and the stairs can be narrow in some places. Plan Your Visit

Unlike the Crown Access to the Statue of Liberty, pedestrian access tickets can usually be purchased at the cruise office on the day of your visit. However, since the number of items in stock is very small, they will sell out quickly. Therefore, we strongly recommend scheduling your visit at least 3-4 months in advance of your visit, in order to access the sidewalk.

Standard Access is the cheapest option for visiting the Statue of Liberty and allows visitors to visit Liberty Island and Ellis Island, but not inside the Statue of Liberty itself. These tickets are more accessible than crown admission or foot admission and don’t require months of planning.

All guests have access to the Statue of Liberty Museum, which opened in 2019, and is included in the admission/cruise ticket price. Standard admission tickets are available as timed and flexible tickets, giving you flexibility in planning your trip.
